SNIPPET

One anxious bystander to another:

"Did you watch the Channel 5 programme on Icelandic Volcanoes".

"Yes, and it scared the hell out of me"

I SINCERELY HOPE IT DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIME TO "FESS UP" AND GET RIGHT WITH GOD.

For those not familiar with youthful jargon - to fess up - means to confess.
Note: Not in the Oxford English Dictionary.

FOCUS

PROVERBS 4 - 25 - 27

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Turn not to the right hand or to the left:
remove thy foot from evil.

When we commit to Yeshua its to our very last breath, there is no retirement age.   Any personal agenda that takes our focus off Him and what He requires of us and we face stormy waters.   There are consequences when we ignore His call on our lives, the pain is corrective and the Lord finally gets our attention.   The dormant flame ignites once again with passion and we focus.

When idols take His place, be it an overwhelming fixation in a relationship, a sports hero or precious possession we fall foul of this worlds values.   Sometimes its a place you want to leave behind for a new start in a secluded hideaway or leafy suburb and God says "I planted you here for a season - stay"
One day His purpose will be fulfilled, it could be a very short ministry, but when you are filling God's agenda,  it will be a powerful.

Its not a question of heading up a church, the right connections or a degree in religious studies, without divine election and anointing you will be as sterile as the fig tree Yeshua reprimanded.

Matthew 21 - 19

And when He saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon,
but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee hence-forward for ever.
And presently the fig tree withered away.

God chooses who He uses from a simple shepherd boy to a wealthy landowner and those who "DO A JONAH" invariably finish up swallowed up.

SANCTUARY

SANCTUARY

The sun was slowly sinking below the horizon, edging grey clouds in a blaze of pink and orange.    Betty loved clouds and the awesome sunsets she enjoyed from her lounge window.   Just perfect, after all this was a special evening.

She had scrubbed and dusted throughout the day having always been taught cleanliness is next to Godliness and her home was ready for the first gathering.   Lee had arranged seven chairs around a small table covered with a spotless white cloth.    The fire in the hearth crackled and sparked as he threw another log on the red hot embers, curtains had been drawn to avoid any external distractions.

Door bell chimes announced the arrival of Joel and Beth who exclaimed "what a beautiful evening just look at that sunset, can't wait until they switch the street lights off then perhaps folks will look up and realise how insignificant they are in the grand design"  Phillip and Penny walked briskly up the path behind them.   "Admission tickets and this way please" joked Lee.   "Would the King James Bible be okay" Joel replied.

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the room.    "Seven chairs" voiced Phillip.   "Yes" said Lee "Matthew 18 - 20 - For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them, so lets leave the chair in the middle for the Lord."

A respectful hush descended on the group.   Lee rose to his feet and spoke.  "Remembering the very reason we have gathered here this evening might I suggest we begin each fellowship with Revelation 18 - 4-5    "And I heard another voice from heaven saying, come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not her plagues.   For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remember her iniquities."

"Joel would you like to lead us in prayer?" Phillip prompted.    The firelight illuminated each bowed head.   "Lord we are gathered together in Your holy name having rejected the direction of the established church and we humbly ask your blessing on this house fellowship.   We will uphold your Word and speak Your truth.   Strengthen us to stand against opposition and persecution .   Help us to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves as we walk in the world but stand apart from its ways.   Amen.

"Perhaps before we take the Lord's supper we should take a few moments to consider our stumbling humanity this week." said Lee as he moved to uncover the contents of the nearby table and they took the bread and wine remembering the sacrifice of their leader Lord and Saviour Yeshua HaMashiach.   For a while the group sat in silent contemplation.

"Lets make our commitment" said Bethany interrupting the silence "Thank you Lord for the warning you so clearly gave through your prophets and disciples of the corruption and twisting of your Holy Word, we uphold the King James Bible in this fellowship and are committed to speaking the Truth.

Later that evening, nourished by the Word and a generous supper the conversation moved to a general discussion of the week's events.   "How can people be so blind" asked Penny "or is it just a question of head in the sand syndrome.    Apparently we are considered a nation of druggies and alcoholics playing t.v. bingo, glued to every depressing news channel, fearful of the next health scare or shortage"   "They have no hope" said Phillip "not surprising people chuck themselves in front of trains and overdose.  The alcohol and drugs will provide momentary escape, but there's always the morning after."

Lee threw another log on the dying embers - sparks flew in every direction.   "I love your home Betty it has such a peaceful atmosphere" said Penny.    "We did think of selling this year" replied Betty "and just move into a retirement apartment but we decided against"   "Why was that" enquired Penny.   "We saw an article in a newspaper about an apartment block where residents were told to remove a cross in the communal lounge as it was an offence to other residents and that was it as far as we were concerned.   This is my house and if I want to place a cross on my door or anywhere else for that matter it stays.

"This is just the beginning" said Lee "we were always proud of the right to freedom of speech in this country, not any more, it is being selectively eroded.   I just thank God my kids are grown and are not being infected with the dross they are teaching in schools.   Just try and comment on that one, not acceptable, but remember Matthew 18 - 6 -  Yeshua said "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.   Remove commandments and boundaries and they wonder why they face anarchy and lawlessness.

It was time to conclude the meeting.   "Who is hosting the next gathering" asked Bethany "I'm happy to do that" replied Penny "and thank you so much for tonight Betty,  it has been very special"
"Remember folks" added Joel "this is no prosperity gospel.   Our brothers and sisters snatched in the Middle East and elsewhere continue to pay with their very lives and the worst they can do here is put you inside on a trumped up charge, but remember what the Lord said to Peter in Matthew 12.37 "Yes.  For by thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

As they gathered in the hallway Joel enquired after the vicar at their former church.     "What's the latest development Phil" asked Joel.   "He's gone, thanks to Satan's little helpers" said Phillip "that's it, a lifetime of commitment snuffed out because he spoke the Truth, but remember vengeance is the Lord's.
Perhaps I will be able to speak to him next week and invite him to bless us with his presence in a few weeks time, when he has settled in his new home.   Remember him in your prayers please" concluded Joel.

"And those pushing Replacement Theology and circulating a corruption of the bible might like to consider Proverbs 13 - 13" said Lee "Whoso despises the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment will be rewarded."   A fervent Amen followed.

Lee moved to close the garden gate.  "Joel, a quick word" he whispered "they are picking people up and detaining them in America without any evidence and its happening here.   I think it would be prudent to take Yeshua's warning seriously in Matthew 5 - 37 - But let your Yes be Yes and your No be No.   For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.   Don't express your opinions, use relevant scripture and keep off the internet.   Those with deadly intent are just waiting to use any excuse to put people behind bars.    God bless and keep you safe, and remember the battle is the Lord's.
Its not just the night that's dark, the days ahead will get even darker.   IT IS WRITTEN.   May the Lord make His light to shine upon you all, bless you and keep you safe until we meet again."   SHALOM

WILDERNESS

Psalm 37 - 11
But the meek shall inherit the earth
and delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
(King James Bible)

In the wilderness you fall on your knees
you have nowhere else to go.

In the wilderness it is time to pray
Father forgive us, lead the way.

In the wilderness we cry and plead
for the blind and deaf that they may see
YOUR KINGDOM COME.

GOING UNDERGROUND

JOHN 14 (16 - 17)
Yeshua said "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper,
that He may abide with you forever-
the spirit of TRUTH, whom the world cannot receive,
because it neither sees Him nor knows Him,
but you know Him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.

The old sandstone church stood proudly in the middle of the town square which had changed little over the years.    A newly pasted poster on the notice board warned "IF YOU THINK LIFE IS FULL OF SURPRISES - WAIT TILL YOU DIE"

Bethany chuckled as she strode purposefully towards the main doors considering that should give folks something to think about.   The lobby had been transformed into a small cafe with a fully operational kitchen tucked to one side, discreetly hidden away behind sliding panels during services.    The remaining area filled with gingham covered tables and chairs, each having its own small glass vase of freshly cut flowers.

The smell of bacon and freshly brewed coffee drifted through the open doors enticing weary shoppers to rest a while before continuing their journey home.   The cafe buzzed with chatter to a background of gentle Christian music.   Perhaps the real agenda, the fervent hope, that one day customers might pass through the second set of heavy glass doors into the sanctuary and stay for a service or two and perhaps discover their Saviour.

Christine was a volunteer and she loved welcoming customers and waiting on tables, thrilled when she got generous tips which promptly went into the collection box towards the running costs.   The menu was comprehensive and heavily subsidizes by the church.

It was a popular Wednesday venue for the remnant.   The atmosphere changed by their somewhat  noisy debates both secular and political accompanied by fits of laughter, often overheard by nearby tables, appreciated by some and considered downright irreverent by a passing Pharisee.

Two tables had been hurriedly pushed together to accommodate the three couples.   Christine approached the group smiling "Hi everyone what can I get you this morning" she enquired.
Lee's eyes glazed over.   "Now that's a leading question" he joked.    Betty, his wife of forty plus years was not impressed "remember where you are Lee" she reprimanded.    "Why, is this place bugged as well" he said his face suggesting mock horror.    "This place is always bugged" said Betty "He knows your every thought, word and deed"   "Well Betty" said Lee with a pained expression on his face "I was merely going to suggest a new set of dentures or glasses might come in very handy but I'll settle for the hotpot.     A loud guffaw proceeded from Philip who rising from the table suggested "NOW ORDERS PLEASE" and with military precision followed Christine back to the serving hatch closely observed by two members of the C.P.C. occupying a nearby table.

Back at the group the conversation moved to holidays.  "Booked yours Beth" Lee enquired.   "What
holidays" she replied "Its Christmas, Easter, birthdays, Valentines, Mothers Day, Fathers Day,
Grandparents Day and on and on, what chance do we get to save?'

Lee chuckled and started to recite:
"When I was a lad,
It wasn't that bad,
A book off me Dad
and a toy"

"How sad" added Philip returning with a large tray of steaming hotpot.  "And did you get your extra £10 off the state at Christmas" he asked Lee.   "Certainly did" Lee replied "although precisely what they think that will buy only heaven knows"   There then followed a variety of humorous suggestions with the final request that he didn't forget the indigestion tablets and disinfectant, then to a rousing chorus of THANK YOU LORD FOR THIS FOOD - Amen, Amen and Amen they proceeded to attack the hotpot.

At this juncture a rather dishevelled elderly man shuffled in the entrance and observing the menu board clutched at the loose change in his shabby jacket offering the contents to Christine.   "I don't think I have enough" he declared.   Overhearing the conversation Joel rose from the table and called to the man "Hey mate, put it away, have this on me"   There was a slight hint of amusement behind the tired smile.   If only they knew who he was and how he had everything he could ever need, but he thanked Joel for his kindness and accepted the nourishing meal.

"That was kind of you Joel" said Bethany.   "Well you never know" said Joel "remember that writer Adrian - what's his name" he paused trying to remember, he wrote a book on that very subject,  the theme, Jesus had come back to inspect the readiness of His church but those who considered themselves so precious and preferred didn't even recognise him.     "Absolutely" agreed Penny.   "Here we go" said Philip noticing his wife tended to drift into another space and time.

"Where is it all going to end "moaned Penny "I had a dream the other night, thousands and thousands of creatures crawling out of a hole in the desert, spreading everywhere, covering everything".
"Yeap" laughed Lee "coming to a town near you"

"Well" said Joel "you can bet your life having mucked this country up - our dear leader and his merry men will swan off to some hideaway abroad along with Tony who started the whole sorry mess".
Bethany cautioned  "Joel we are supposed to pray for our leaders".

"Yes" said Joel defiantly  "I am praying Jesus will come back and whack them with a Rod of Iron and sort it, get my meaning".   Amen and Amen followed fits of laughter.

Lee addressing the group commented "has anyone heard the news about the vicar of St. Saviours"
"Not having an attack of chinese whispers are we Lee" enquired Phillip.    "Excuse me" said Lee indignantly "They have kicked him out.   He didn't want to leave, he has refused to even discuss same sex marriage, its common knowledge"   Joel's comment "they are re.writing the bible that lot, heaven help them" followed by Amen and Amen heralded the attention of the two women on the C.P.C. who glared at the rebels.

Penny appeared to drift again  "don't they realise they are going to.........." her voice trailed off.   "Now then Penny" Philip reprimanded "God's in charge IT IS WRITTEN"   "This is scary" said Bethany  "there's that bloke SIZER".   "Oh for heaven sake" Penny pleaded "don't mention Sizer, Phil goes into a nose dive at the very mention of his name.   His blood pressure goes off the scale.   I keep telling him he'll finish up at the feet of Jesus and he'll have to explain why he's arrived early and the Lord will say  "didn't you trust my Word Phil.  I will deal with those who twist scripture"

"I heard a song last week by a young American Christian called Leslie Phillips" said Betty
"It was an old album from way back called The Definitive Collection and I couldn't help thinking how significant and relevant it is today.  It was on a track called When the World is new.  "NO WONDER PEOPLE TURN AWAY WHEN I GIVE YOU SUCH A BAD NAME."  It was time for an Amen, Amen, Amen.

"Do you think this country and America are getting the message" enquired Penny anxiously "tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and flooding"   Bethany smiled "according to the t.v. its all caused by "Mother Nature"   "Really" said Philip "Its God's judgement and its only going to get worse"

Lee noted the two C.P.C. members were furtively discussing minutes of a recent meeting.   "If that lot get their way our vicar will be next out of the door, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the rumours I heard recently were true" he suggested.     Bethany sighed "If he goes, I go"   Joel whispered "Oh that would please them, you are surely a thorn in their side dear, they lean towards Replacement Theology.

The men chorused "well they won't be leaning on us, we're going underground"    "Wasn't it the upper room" joked Bethany.   "Don't split hairs dear" said Joel.

The six like minded spirits concluded it was time to leave.   "There,  we have a mission for the week - go to it men" said Joel and laughing they stepped out into the real world.   Philip put a gentle arm around Penny.   "Don't worry chucky, Jesus told his followers  "FEAR NOT"   His plan will unfold for us all.

The small group wandered down the lane to the church car park singing "How great is our God" to the amusement of the locals who probably considered they had had one drink too many in the "Duck & Pheasant" not realising they were full of a very different Spirit.

At this juncture the group decided to meet for fellowship, study and worship on a weekly basis.   Penny enquired "but who will lead us" and Philip proclaimed "the only leader we need is the Lord, otherwise we will become like the churches we chose to leave - top heavy with hypocrites and Pharisees focused on position, ambition, celebrity and have you noticed its getting more like a pop concert every week.

Betty, ever practical enquired  "but who will be treasurer"  Lee joked "anyone want the position of Judas"   There were no takers.   "We freely give" said Penny.  "And we will take turns at providing refreshment"

So the house church was birthed.  They agreed the total number of a group would not exceed twelve but should the numbers increase one man would agree to head up another group.   "Rather like the real church in China" suggested Penny remembering the book about Christian Brother Yun.

With holy hugs all round and the salutation "Go with God,  drive carefully and may the Lord bless you and keep you in His loving care until we meet again"  they parted remembering what their Lord had promised.

Matthew 28 20:
and lo I am with you always even to the end of the age.

INTERLUDE

When my computer suddenly appeared to house a manic woodpecker I knew it was about to crash.
Like most equipment these days it probably has a short shelf life.   The constant upgrading required is now sadly beyond my finance so it was off to the experts for diagnosis and possible surgery.

Determined to make the best of this blessed interlude I decided it was time to tidy my C.D. and book collection and remove Christian literature written by men and women who although initially appeared to be moving in a right direction had sadly fallen prey to their own agenda and egotism.   Put simply
"they have lost the plot" and rather than pollute another searching soul perhaps the recycling bin would be more appropriate.

A pristine blue and gold hardback Classic by Hendrickson of John Bunyan's Pilgrims Progress was the next book on the shrinking pile for consideration.    A few years ago the mail order book arrived on my door mat and briefly turning the pages I found the old English daunting and wondered if I would ever get around to reading the contents.   To be fair John does warn the reader in his author's apology

"And thus it was: I, writing of the way
And race of saints in this our Gospel-day

this was certainly going to be a challenge as I was oft heard to complain "what - what does that mean reading Paul's letters!  Why couldn't he just say - my flesh is weak - I am prone to drop my cross - simples!!!

A fellow Christian commented "how did you cope without cyberspace for five months" my reply "easy David, it took me three months to read Pilgrims Progress" and  I can't even remember why I ordered the book in the first place.   It is easy to see why this classic is so loved by those who struggle with Sin City and thirst for a better land.

So my pilgrimage began and the flimsy pages of my study bible were considerably weakened by the constant "to and fro" checking every numerical biblical quote and despite slow progress it was well worth the effort.

When Christian finds his journey blocked by Apollyon - alias Satan - it is suggested he changes sides because if he continues to serve his Lord he will pay a heavy price, even his life, cunningly reminding him many have been put to death.    Hardly the stuff of prosperity preachers.    On the other hand he (Satan) has delivered either by power or fraud those who are his followers.   SOUND FAMILIAR.

 Psalm 22 - 7-8
All those who see me ridicule me,
They shoot out the lip, and shake their head saying
He trusted in the Lord let Him rescue him,
Let him deliver him, since He delights in him.

Christian refuses to give way and Apollyon proceeds to beat seven bells out of the poor lad and leaves him for dead.   There were moments of humour and I couldn't help but giggle at Bunyan's description of the old Pope sat in the entrance to his cave at the end of the valley of the Shadow of Death.   Sterile,
biting his fingernails, because he couldn't touch the pilgrims, and poor old Faithful nearly beaten to death by Moses (the Law) but saved in the nick of time by a man with holes in his hands and side who Faithful considered his Lord and Saviour.

Of course Christian reaches the Celestial City despite every best effort of a long list of characters who would have happily blocked his way who are alive and well in the modern world.   Mr. Worldly Wise and Mr. Atheist, Mr. Love Lust, Mr. Talkative, Mr. Malice, Mr. Highlife, Mr. High Mind, Mr. Love Money to mention just a few.

Somewhere in the future I may be fortunate enough to actually thank John Bunyan for this amazing work.   Until that day I continue to limp homeward only regretting I hadn't read this brilliant book at the start of my personal pilgrimage.

Psalm 17
As for me I will see your face in righteousness
I shall be satisfied when I awake in your likeness.

This timeless classic is as relevant today as the day it was written and a very necessary encouragement for any Christian beginning their journey.

1 John 2 - 16 - 17
For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world
And the world is passing away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

BEHOLD

PSALM 119 (26)

It is time for You to act, O Lord
For they have regarded Your law as void.

Like a discarded plastic bag trapped high on the wire
buffeted by the raging storm,
I swing between elation and sorrow
the end game WRITTEN long ago.

Sickening depravity of a rotting culture,
writhing sea of dammed souls,
grotesque parade of man's appalling inhumanity.
And still they dance and say "God doesn't see"

This rapid slide into chaos gains momentum,
drug induced mania, a weaponless war, but no less lethal,
kiss of a silent enemy harvested in blood red fields.

Shameless this face of human greed,
featureless the stare of apathy.
Your commandments ignored by fraudulent leaders
resplendent in their palaces,
well hidden from mayhem called anarchy.

The remnant wait, hearts united
for they know divine love,
and hunger for their real home
the journey all but over.
